At Advanced Faces, LLC our experience with Latisse® has been excellent and the product has far exceeded our expectations. Since the introduction of the product it has been in high demand and the complications associated with the product have been minimal. The most common side effect has been redness at the base of the eyelash. The second most common complaint has been the applicator that accompanies the product. A few patients feel that the bristles of the applicator are too coarse and rapidly absorb the Latisse®. As a result, Dr. Johnson has been recommending that patients wet the applicator first and dry with a towel then apply one drop to the applicator per eye. LATISSE® solution is a prescription treatment for hypotrichosis used to grow eyelashes, making them longer, thicker and darker. Eyelash hypotrichosis is another name for having inadequate or not enough eyelashes. LATISSE® (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution) 0.03% is the first and only prescription treatment approved by the FDA for inadequate or not having enough eyelashes, growing them longer, fuller and darker. LATISSE® makes lash growth possible because of its active ingredient: bimatoprost. Although the precise mechanism of action is not known, research suggests that the growth of eyelashes occurs by increasing the percent of hairs in, and the duration of, the anagen (or growth) phase. Lashes can grow longer, thicker and darker because bimatoprost can also prolong this growth phase. LATISSE® is FDA approved and effective. It’s a once-a-day treatment you apply topically to the base of your upper eyelashes. Patients in a clinical trial saw results in as few as 8 weeks with full results after 12 to 16 weeks. While LATISSE® is a treatment for inadequate or not enough eyelashes, it was developed through years of research by Allergan, a pharmaceutical leader with over 60 years of expertise in prescription eye care products.Remember the treatment period is 4 months for maximum effect. Once you reach maximum effect it is unknown if daily application is needed to maintain the results. Dr. Johnson is currently evaluating this and feels that application every other day or every third day may be sufficient to maintain your results; lowering your maintenance cost.
How to Apply
BEFORE: Before applying LATISSE® each night, ensure your face is clean, makeup and contact lenses are removed, and any other facial care products have already been applied. PREPARE THE APPLICATOR: Remove the LATISSE® applicator from its tray. Then, holding the sterile applicator horizontally, place one drop of LATISSE® solution on the area of the applicator closest to the tip but not on the tip. So far in my practice, patients have had to use two drops to wet the applicator for application to be both upper eyelashes. APPLYING TO SKIN: Immediately draw the LATISSE® applicator carefully along the skin at the base of the upper eyelashes (where the eyelashes meet the skin) just as you would apply liquid eyeliner. This area should feel lightly moist without runoff. Then apply with the same applicator to the other eye, unless you have an active eye infection. Contact Dr. Johnson’s office for further LATISSE® instructions. BLOT EXCESS: Blot any excess LATISSE® solution beyond the eyelid with a tissue. DISPOSE OF APPLICATOR: Dispose of the LATISSE® applicator after one use.
TIPS for Success:
Once you know how to apply LATISSE®, it’s important to understand a few simple tips to help you make your treatment as effective as possible.
Follow these guidelines for best results with LATISSE®:
Think routine
Try to incorporate LATISSE® into your nightly routine — for example, after you’ve washed your face and brushed your teeth.Keep it handy
Store the LATISSE® bottle near your other skin care products or toothbrush, so you won’t forget to apply it each night. Have patience LATISSE® (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution) 0.03% takes time to work. Only use it once a night, and don’t overuse it, as this may increase the chance of experiencing eye redness or itchiness.Start fresh
If your eye makeup remover leaves an oily residue on your eyelids, wipe off any excess oils with soap and water to ensure a clean surface before you apply LATISSE®.Follow the rules
Always use the sterile, disposable FDA-approved applicator provided in the kit. Don’t try to apply LATISSE® with a cotton swab. The LATISSE® applicator is specially designed to hold a drop and release a drop.Don’t play catch up
If you miss a dose one night, don’t apply more just to catch up. Simply apply LATISSE® the next evening and stay on schedule. Beware of germs Don’t let the tip of the LATISSE® bottle or applicator contact your fingers or any other unintended surface, in order to avoid contamination. Chart your progress When you start using LATISSE® solution, be sure to mark your calendar and take pictures throughout weeks (0, 4, 8, 12, 16), so you can have your own “Before & After Gallery.” Talk to Dr. Johnson or his staff for some additional tips for success.
What to Expect:
Great eyelashes don’t just happen overnight. That’s why it’s important to note that LATISSE® (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution) 0.03% works gradually and remarkably — with full results after 12 to 16 weeks. Once you begin treatment, you must continue applying the topical solution each night and follow the directions for best results. Remember results are gradual over time. Your eyelashes will experience real measurable growth. LATISSE® works from the inside out. As the treatment progresses, you’ll begin to see changes in length, thickness and darkness gradually. After week 16, you’ll see the full effect of LATISSE® — and so will others. There are possible side effects (see below). Throughout clinical trials, some users did experience itchy eyes and eye redness. However, some users found that these irritations went away once they becam e accustomed to the product or began applying it properly. As with any prescription treatment, always consult Dr. Johnson for information and proper usage of LATISSE® solution. In the clinical study, 78% of participants experienced a significant increase in overall eyelash prominence (including elements of length, fullness, and darkness) at week 16.
