BOTOX Cosmetic treatment is a revolutionary approach to reversing the affects of facial wrinkles. Crows feet, worry lines and laugh lines can all be a thing of the past with BOTOX® Cosmetic. These are referred to as dynamic wrinkle lines and all are treatable with a simple injection of BOTOX®. Cosmetic denervation is the process of injecting BOTOX® Cosmetic into the tiny facial muscles that create the wrinkles. By relaxing the muscle and rendering it inmobile, BOTOX® reduces your age lines, taking the years away. BOTOX® is the original doctor administered medication approved by the FDA to reduce and smooth facial lines.
Before Your Botox Procedure
To better understand your overall health, we will evaluate your medical history prior to injecting BOTOX®. In addition, a complete examination of your face is made in order to decide the most effective BOTOX® injection sites. All issues and concerns will be discussed before the administration of BOTOX®. The areas that will be treated with BOTOX® are discussed and digital photographs may be taken in order to determine the amount of improvement after injection with BOTOX®.
The BOTOX Cosmetic Procedure
BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are performed without anesthesia because they are virtually painless. Only a very small sting is felt when the injections of BOTOX® are made. If you are nervous about the BOTOX® injection, we offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) that may eliminate the small “pinch” from the BOTOX® needle. We also use ice packs as well. The effects of BOTOX® are not permanent and may need to be repeated two to three times per year to retain the effects. Research has suggested, however, that long term use of Botox® leads to a shorter duration of each treatment’s effect. However, continued use of BOTOX® over time will slow the aging process as the lines do not have time to form because BOTOX® paralysis the cause, your muscle activity. Patients over the age of 65 may not experience such dramatic results with BOTOX® as a 45 year old. BOTOX® Cosmetic is only useful in treating expression lines and cannot be used to repair sagging skin caused by aging. Occasionally we find some patients do not respond to BOTOX® Cosmetic because they have an antibody that prevents BOTOX® from stopping the function of the muscle. Ask Dr. Johnson for more information about this rare BOTOX® experience.
After BOTOX® is injected, patients may experience slight bruising around the area that quickly fades. The “blebs” and redness after a BOTOX® injection will resolve in 20 minutes. Normal activities can be performed immediately after your injection of BOTOX®. Possible side effects of BOTOX® is a temporary weakness of the nearby muscles or in rare cases an eyelid may droop. BOTOX® Cosmetic is completely reversible so any side effect is a temporary condition. Dr. Johnson will explain all risks associated at the time of your BOTOX® consultation. Do not rub the injection sites, as this may move the BOTOX® Cosmetic to other areas and cause an unwanted complication. BOTOX® Cosmetic recommends lying at 30 degrees or standing for 2 hours, however Dr. Johnson has found this recommendation from BOTOX® to be unnecessary. The effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic usually takes 3 days for full effect. If you have not noticed an effect from the BOTOX® injection, please contact Dr. Johnson to discuss your options.
